The StingRay Music Mans StingRay was first created in 1976 by Joe Fender and Tom Walker with the help of Sterling Ball who was a beta tester for the StingRay. Although it was physically similar to a Fender precision bass the StingRay was considered a highly innovative instrument and since then has been a favourite for several influential bassists such as Louis Johnson Flea Bernard Edwards and Guy Pratt. About Music Man Music Man (originally Tri-Sonix) was founded in 1971 by Forrest White and Tom Walker with the help of Leo Fender who at the time was a silent partner due to a 10-year non-compete clause he was tied to. In 1974 when they officially became Music Man the company produced its first product an amplifier designed by Leo Fender and Tom Walker called the “Sixty Five” and a year later Leo Fender was named president of the company. It was in 1976 when Music Man started to produce guitars and basses in the form of the StingRay 1 Guitar and StingRay Bass and the company was later bought to Ernie Ball in 1984.
