The Martin D-222 100th Anniversary is an accurate faithful reproduction of the 1916 original acoustic guitar. The top is Sitka Spruce with VTS producing a strikingly accurate vintage dry sound. The fingerboard is Ebony for clarity and a good distribution of high and low tones. The Genuine Mahogany back and sides add to the clarity and rich tone the D-222 offers. The body is the traditional dreadnought shape that Martin invented. Featuring the highest quality materials and craftsmanship accurate to that of 100 years ago the Martin D-222 is a guitar to last a lifetime.
Authentic Woods Detailed Tone Martin’s aim is to produce guitars to last a lifetime whether that be in live studio or home use. The D-222 Anniversary model celebrates the world’s first dreadnought of 100 years ago. This iconic shape is now produced by nearly every acoustic guitar manufacturer in the world. The Sitka Spruce top has been made using the VTS method to give a strong vintage tone. Genuine Mahogany on the D-222’s back and sides adds to the clarity producing dark and warm tones with great punch. The Ebony fingerboard and bridge bring defined notes as well as being a stunning dark colour. Martin have committed to producing the finest woods that accurately represent this 100 year old design. Vintage Tone System Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) takes new woods back to their roots. It’s common knowledge that old guitars’ wood sounds warmer more resonant and have an all round better sound. Using the torrefaction method the wood begins to effectively ‘age’ at a high heat Martin have been able to give woods a tone replicating the sound of a guitar far older. By refining this method Martin have been able to take their guitars back to a specific decade whilst retaining the strength and reliability of a brand new product.
